Aug 21st 1982 - first comments on Microsoft Windows.
I just stumbled upon this excellent and extremely nostalgic website which basically is an archieve of one of the first web 2.0 communitites dated 1979:
Usenet. The archieve (however incomplete) is hosted at Google Groups and the threads from this old forum deals with first versions of MS-DOS, Apple’s Lisa and Macintosh,
first comments on Commodore 64 and Windows as well as first mentions on compact discs and much more fun stuff.
Let me just give you an example of how we perceived this new technological world with a few lines from a post by Doug:
”- it comes with 64K of memory standard
- in highest graphics resolution it has 320 X 200 pixels
- it uses the same Microsoft BASIC as the PET. They say they will have Pascal for it soon”.
This clearly demonstrates how very new and exiting the personal computer were back in 82’ - pretty darn funny!
Quote by Peter Rowley:“When run on the Hyperion, MS-Windows will extend the function of the MS-DOS operating system to include management of bit-mapped screen graphics and a mouse cursor control device. MS-Windows will enable the user to view unrelated applications programs simultaneously, allowing data transfer from one application program to another.”
